Forgot to mention.

Yesterday we were working with/for a gardener (originally from New Zealand) at one of the properties he maintains.

The lad (English but raised from a very early age in France, so unaware of English vernacular) and me are chatting await on the coms me up the tree, him running the ropes.

The lad:

’He’s a nice bloke isn’t he? He still has a very strong Australian accent’

Me:

’Yes but he’s not Australian, he’s a Kiwi’

20 seconds pause..

The lad:

’Is Kiwi an island then?’

Morning all.

Typically I woke up at work o'clock for no reason again. I miss being able to sleep til lunchtime without any effort at all!

Beech hedge reduction completed yesterday, took about 7' off it. They were dealing with arisings themselves, I enjoyed their surprise at the magnitude of what they'd taken on. "Didn't realise there'd be so much stuff from just cutting a hedge".

Mr Blair, your absence on the register was noted yesterday, we'll make an allowance due to your cutters xmas outing on Friday.

Have a good one folks.

First Aid course

I'm sure you will do Bob but seeing those words I'm compelled to say please take it seriously, take as much as you can from it and keep it at the front of your mind in the future.

Won't say much, but I'm still feeling quite emotional and keep going over an event last week where my emergency response/first aid was tested to the limit.

I'm so glad now that I've treated these courses as valuable, and little things like enacting emergency information boards on site in addition to RA, actually having comprehensive first aid kit at hand, as well as being in the habit of carrying my personal trauma kit attached to me rather than leaving it somewhere handy.

We all know it can be a dangerous job but when that risk is suddenly realised and the situation is critical these things are invaluable.

I should say at this point that everyone will see a happy christmas with their loved ones, but that may not have been the case without excellent emergency preparation, comprehensive first aid kits, and the basic knowledge to use them.

Sorry it's my turn to preach Bob, but it's very fresh for me and was by far the most serious event of my working life.

We tend to say "stay safe out there" a lot, please do everyone. 👍

Story as old as time! They never understand how neat and tidy things are when they are stacked vertically into the sky, and how much mess they make when they turn horizontal.

Good morning everyone. Back home to Ireland today, back to work 0730 tomorrow.
