Bar size for training

Wow, just got back here, this escalated 😂

Thanks all for your comments, useful info.

So if I put a 15" bar on my Sachs Dolmar 116 si (it has a 20" bar in it now) what do we think of that, it's 60 cc? Cheaper than buying a new saw. I have a McCulloch 486 as well with a 14" bar but would rather use the Dolmar as that can only be described as a garden saw, I like it for that though. I am a gardener. Love the Dolmar, cuts really well.

I am talking refresher not basic training.

I wouldn't feel comfortable letting the average NT volunteer CS30 candidate loose on anything more than an MS181, even after training.

Mind you, my tickets are non existant so what do I know? Just off to fit an 18" to the 881!😂

Just saying if peeps recall I had a struggle controlling my " Crocky ported " 395XP on a 13" 3/8 pitch bar during the chainsaw race recently , and I have done a bit over the years .

Is it a 116 then? I've got a 112 and a PS6000i, both Husky small mount so same as 550, 560 but not 372 - so Husky bar will be cheap.

Should rip, reckon I could carry my 6000 around for one day but I'd be thinking all the time about how nice it is that modern saws are so much lighter.

Yes 116 si. Great saw. I agree it would be fine for one day, it's not even a full day as in training you are waiting on others.

I would take another saw as a back up. I need a modern saw anyway, let's face it you can never have enough.

When clearing  or snedding up trees etc have found abit of extra  reach is  useful so like  a 15"  or 16" or a max of 18" for for 50cc.

I got  a 13" bar  once to try  for use on coppicing hazel   but went back to the 15" on a 40cc saw.

Found   the extra 2" reach was more handy even though all the stuff  was no more than max 4" cuts.
