Valid qualification or not?

So this is my qualification/certificate.

I think it is a forestry specific one.

I am getting mixed messages, one training provider saying it is obsolete and I can't do a refresher on it as it doesn't exist now.

Another saying it's fine as it is a life long qualification.

I don't know what to do as the cost of doing it again from scratch

is high.

Should I maybe just do the larger tree one, if they let me? I want to be a freelance/self employed ground worker, have no interest in climbing.

Advice appreciated. Thanks.

Depends entirely on what the company(s) that you will be doing work for will accept.

Some will be happy with just a days felling and maintenance refresher, and a certificate of attendance from a training provider….. others will require an in-date NPTC or LANTRA qualification.

Unfortunately, there is no right or wrong answer - it depends on your circumstance.

NPTC certificates are lifetime qualifications however HSE want to see refresher training every 3-5 years (so do most insurance companies). NPTC now have CPD qualification which are principally a day with an assessor checking that you are all up-to-date with legislation and haven't picked up any bad habits since your last training. This would probably be the best option for you. Just contact your local NPTC centre and they should be able to arrange.

Hi yes, that is what I think and it has been backed up by the NPTC however I got this from a training provider.

Anyway they are the only ones that are saying this so will just go elsewhere.

I also attach an email from the NPTC.Screenshot_2023-08-17-21-01-55-51_56514063904998099a7290fdb861fa95.thumb.jpg.fddbbc0a248a90bc6ffafcb109cc4be1.jpgScreenshot_2023-08-17-21-08-13-02_56514063904998099a7290fdb861fa95.thumb.jpg.f6d5a4e332bda01339c285bc0a8aa33a.jpgw code numbers 201/202/203.

The current qualifications only allow candidates to fell up to 380ml diameter

It sounds like this training provider hasn’t got a clue, CS32 courses are being run all the time, I would certainly dodge them altogether and find someone who knows what they are talking about.

Download the current CS30/31 equivalent schedule from NPTC, familiarise yourself with it as there are lots of changes since you took yours, then book a refresher with an NPTC assessor, if you pass your certificate will then be updated and in itself, a refresher for 5 years, or can be used as a prerequisite for any of the higher level felling assessments including CS32.
