Stihl BG56 problem

My not-very-new BG56 is chucking petrol out of the exhaust, and surprisingly it’s not that easy to start.

The piston is swimming in fuel.

 

Is it possible to fix by playing around with the carb screws, which have never been touched?

 

Plug is good and air filter reasonably clean.

 

It’s never had a lot of love tbf, and owes me nothing.

Sounds like something more fundamental wrong with the carb like split diaphragm or failed metering needle to me. Adjuster screws are the road to frustration if something else is wrong anyway so not the place to start.

 

I guess you have to decide whether it's worth a carb kit+time, new carb, or time to retire it.

Most likely a stuck needle valve but it is possibly a split, holed or damaged pump diaphragm....not the one with the round aluminium disk on it.

Those blower engines are prone to crank bearings breaking up and trashing the crank seals

Update on this.

It was indeed a stuck needle valve.

 

Carb kit and service, new diaphragms and primer bulb for good measure.

£60 all in from a mate, good as new.

I think it helped that I had stripped it and  given it a good going over with the compressor so it was immaculate and he could get straight to work.

It was a disgrace when I took the covers off!

 

More blower love in future!
