Which rigging rope diameter, dead eye sling, & portawrap to start off?

Hi all,

Which size diameter rigging rope do you find is best? I'm considering a 14mm to start off with.

Also for a portawrap, honeybros sells a medium & large version without much price difference.. Think I might as well go for large unless there's a good reason not to?

Finally to attach the portawrap to the tree I'm looking at dead-eye slings, any recommendations for which diameter and length to go for?

Thanks

14mm line will cover most things to start. The biggest favour you will do your self if funds allow is to get a fixed bollard over a portawrap. So much better for almost every occasion apart from when it’s one branch to do quick but only due to quicker set up.
If your mind it set on the portawrap go bigger for the dead eye, 16 - 18mm for both the portawrap and main block.

Thanks for your reply,

All the previous companies I worked for used portawraps, I haven't got anything against a bollard just haven't used one yet.. What would you say are the benefits of a bollard?

From googling it sort of looks the same as a portawrap but it ratchet straps to the tree..? I guess it's stable & fixed and not wobbling around like a portawrap is?

Less drop when you get to negative rigging as you can take a lot more slack out on a fixed bollard.. this intern makes the whole operation smoother, once you have tried one you won’t want to go back… saying that I still have a portawrap in my light rigging kit as it’s just less hassle to set up and move about but off any serious rigging a bollard is a must.

I've fixed a portawrap to the tree with ratchet straps before now, I think they were 10 ton if I recall. Worked quite similar to a bollard just not quite as smooth. Did the job though

Agreed. I use ratchet straps on the POW for light rigging.
