Was a good day out today. Great to hear Ted Green and David Lonsdale sharing their opinions and wisdom on old ash pollards. There was some interesting debate (about trees) - and some not so interesting debate (about budgets).

 

After discussing where/how hard a particular Ash tree should be pruned, a local arb by the name of Tim Bendall went up and gave it a tickle while we sat around eating our sarnies and chatting. Look at his funny top-handle! He is sponsored by Husqvarna apparently.

 

Nice to meet a few arbtalkers there today as well (Andy Clark, Monkeyd, Gibbon, Hamadryad and a few others). Even got a shot of Tony and Mr Lonsdale to go in a frame on your mantelpiece Tony:biggrin:

This was the highlight of my day….

 

Personally I thought the organisers missed a great opportunity for some informed debate about the pro’s and cons associated with the pruning of veteran trees. Yes the Veteran Tree Forum is a forum but I didn’t expect it to continue on in the field with only ‘selected members’ invited to exchange ideas and opinions. When Arbs spoke up we were either ignored or told to be quiet! (I was chatting quietly with an esteemed colleague when I was told to stand in the corner of the field if I wanted to continue chatting!) Blame you David, for that one.

 

It was good talking to David L, Ted G and Roy F, and of course fellow Arbtalkers.
