Don't bother looking at condition of belt, it means nowt, a good looking belt can snap. Ny mates advice(he owns a garage and a **** hot machanic, ex jag and Aston Martin) is look a manafactures specs and knock 10k off, so if its due to be changed at 70k intervals do it at 60k that way you have a good margin, he told a disco owner this a few years ago and the owner turned his nose up as though he was trying to rip him off, 6 months later it was in for a total top end rebuild, cost him 3 times the amount of a belt job. I have mine done at 60k intervals, book says 70k, never had any problems at all.

Thats interesting Ian, as the WORST that can happen with a landy tdi engine is that 4 valves get bent....what lump was in the disco?

is it still under warranty? would the warranty be effective if you left it or changed earlier. I had one go on a Fiat coupe 16v Turbo. Car just over 3 months old 43 thou on clock. Recommended change at 64k or 5 years. Both limits were well within the manufacturers recommendations.

The belt snapped and blew the top end, Fiat refused to payout even though I pointed out the numbers. Out of warranty by 3 months.

Get it changed - it could save you a fortune in the grander scheme of things.
