The chainbrake on my 260 is not working anymore and doesn't bind tight on the clutch when engaged. When I stripped it down I noticed that some of the metal casing that a part of the mechanism sits in was sheared off. (Sorry a little difficult to explain). I've attached some pics. Would this be the cause of the faulty chain brake? I've changed the band and clutch and still slips.

As spud says that is a bit of a mess. The 260 is a good saw and since you're looking at £700+ plus to replace it it probably is worthy of a repair imo.

 

Just out of interest, has anyone had any luck in welding chainsaw crankcase's?

I might have a second hand one at work. Let me have a look on Monday, and I'll message you. I've got my 260 in bits, but that's an ongoing project

Hi, I'm finding it pretty difficult to see any detail in your pics could you not blow the shit off the area and repost a better view.

 

There are several possibilities when it comes to a repair of an alloy casting whether Magnesium or not, you just need to find someone able to do it, cheers.

if you buy that and do it yourself with help from here you'll be looking at a total cost of about £100, Thats the crankcase, plus a set of gaskets/seals and whilst its all apart i would put in new rings and fuel and impulse pipes.
