Have you had your first fire yet?

Recommended Posts

We haven’t. The house is cool and we have run the oil heating for an hour or so a few times but with outdoor temperatures still getting up to 18c, it just doesn’t feel right to start burning full time just yet. Looking at the forecast, we’ll probably start needing the fire from November.

Do you have to throw open all your windows to avoid overheating…?

Yes. 🤣 As I do most of the cooking it’s generally with the kitchen windows open and Im

in my shorts. My bedroom window is opened as soon as I head up.

Its all virtually free firewood and I need the space back. It’s easy to forget how lucky it is these days to not even think about the cost of heating the house, hot water or cooking.

I do a similar thing when my wife gets right on top of the washing - it won’t all fit in my drawers, so I have to put a load in the laundry basket.
