Yeah it’s not a grey area at all. I think part of the problem is that insurance companies tell their clients that if they are using subbies then the subby needs to have their own insurance. Thing is, they are meaning bona fide subcontractors, which a freelancer is not

I’m sure you are right, when people first start out freelance they mistakenly tell insurance companies they are subbing, which we know they aren’t.
