Contract climbing and insurance

Does a contract climber provide his own insurance when working for a company or is he working under the company's insurance

No matter what insurance companies and main contractors will try to tell you, you are in the eyes of the law an employee of the main contractor, working under their direction and covered by their insurance.

That's exactly what I thought,  although for some it seems to be a bit of a grey area

It’s not grey at all should you actually try to claim.

Yeah it’s not a grey area at all. I think part of the problem is that insurance companies tell their clients that if they are using subbies then the subby needs to have their own insurance. Thing is, they are meaning bona fide subcontractors, which a freelancer is not

I’m sure you are right, when people first start out freelance they mistakenly tell insurance companies they are subbing, which we know they aren’t.
