Assuming the Vermeer is the same as my old Jensen 528 in that there is no opening in the housing where the radiator sits...which is a crazy idea!! All it's doing is sucking in hot air within the engine canopy.

Jensen at least sorted the problem with the 530 giving it a full opening to fresh air.

I reckon you need to cut out the front where the rad sits and fill with mesh.

What sort of mesh do you use?

Also the Vermeer radiator sits just below the discharge chute where all the dusty crap is...did someone on here make an extended chute, any help would be great!

running bc150's for over 12 years, you need strict daily routine…. leaf blower from engine bay to front twice a day if hitched to chip trailer/ box, visual checks at startup,

back in the yard with Low air pressure give it a really good going over in both directions, check fins with a backlight to check for blockage damaged fins ect, a kettle of boiling water will test the rad cap, make no mistake this is not being fussy, it will cost in excess of 2K TO DO A REBUILD, and thats on the cheap.

i have done this faithfully for years no matter how tired or busy i am, never had an issue even last summer in sweltering heat, the one concession you can make is to remove the blanking plate on the opposite side to the controls, other wise don't go cutting holes in the hood as it is designed to run on convection as well as the fan, this aids oil cooling also,

if in doubt pop the rad out get it tested and rebuilt if needed…. cheapest fix…. !they are a bullet proof design and will last years if looked after properly! hope this helps and you get it sorted!

Btw Vemeer UK are spot on and will assist you with any issues, Ask for Sonny;01933274400.

I've never had it on a Vermeer, but had it with Kubota engines on Jensens and Timberwolfs.

The fins on the radiator can get blocked with sawdust/chipdust caused by the fan blowing/sucking air through the rad.

Try getting the blower in through the side of the engine bay, and blowing any muck back out through the rad.

Yup, you can cook a Quadchip sufficiently so that it cuts out automatically this way when chipping dry dusty conifer hedges...:blushing:
