just wondering what size bar my 390 will realistically run. ive got a 28 on it at the moment but would like to be able to stick a 36 on it.il get a oregan bar so i can stay with 3/8s chain.

or do you think i should get a 066 to run a 36

depends how much your going to use it with the big bar. i would say if its only going to be rarely, id stick to the 390 it will cope. if your going to be useing the 36in every day id get a bigger saw for it.

390xp will pull a 36" chain. Its abit tip heavy and doesnt have the obvious grunt of a 660 but it will do the job.

I think if you were bucking large logs alot or climbing with it, a 660 is better balanced and faster, but for just ringing up stuff on the deck its fine.

I bought a 36" to avoid the expence of forking out for a larger saw and for the times I need a 36"bar, its more than adequate.

hmm maybe il get one then

what about a 32" my old 288 would pull that fine that was all i used on that saw and it never felt under powered ,dealer told me it would pull a 36" so cant imagine a 390 would be much different

a 32" was my first thought but wasnt sure id be able to get one

Buy the 36" bar and give it a go John. Should be OK if razor sharp.

Have you seen the price of a new 66 now!

My 66, OK, MS 660, will run a 36" bar OK, but is tip heavy and cuts curvy as soon as the chain is even slightly dull.

You got some monsters coming up bro?

havnt looked at the price of the 660 yet but its got to be around the 850 mark, and id rather make do till aprill before spending that much

got 2 horsechestnut pollards with merripilus to come down and a good sized dead oak to tackle in the next month or so

i run a 28" on my 371 no problems, so reckon the 390 will be ok with 36"
