Where to get them from? I'm interested in Oak mainly large trunks that can yield 400mm+ slabs. Am in Doncaster area.

Aren’t we all 🤔

Joking aside I’d have thought right now post the recent weather we’ve experienced would be a good time to source stuff. Thousands of trees down in Aberdeenshire, not sure how bad it got down your way. Trigger Andy might spot this and he is pretty sharp at sniffing out Oak.

Have to be honest I'm new to this so excuse me if this sounds like a silly question. If a tree surgeon fells a wide diameter hardwood is it case of finding someone to take it free of charge, paying someone to take it away, or selling it to the highest bidder? I know each case is unique but wondering how this usually plays out?

Dont know what sort of quantity your after ? but you will find that most trees from a garden will carry a quantity of metal !! it would pay in the long run to buy forest grown timber for your job, there is plenty of estates out you way that will be taking timber out on a regular basis,,
