As in the tapered mating surfaces or the stem seals? Please report back on your findings. I’m trying to learn more about mechanics.
My turbo shaft is thankfully tight. I have now also made it up to 75 btw. Maybe I don’t have a leak. I am carrying a quite pikey load.
Stem seals. But my favored option is Turbo or rings.
Will report back

Sorry I thought I said in the original post. But i didn't,
It's a 2.5L 120hp

Unrelated to smoking but frequent gearbox oil changes recommended on Masters btw. They’re not fill-to-spill either. My 5 speed manual takes 2.8 litres.

I don't know about Masters but intercooler split can cause smoking if it takes a certain pressure to open up. I'm not sure how you test this though unless you can hear the air leakage.

First thing you would notice would be loss of power, then the smoke would likely be black from over fueling.

See if you can read any numbers off the turbo for them

Eventually got round to examining turbo. Didn't feel like there is much play in the impeller. Lots of oil in air intake though.
Is really bad acsess though. Looks like I will be swearing alot.

Thought I bet update this thread now,

Didn't fancy rebuilding the turbo my self and couldn't get hold of a new one. So I fitted a recon turbo.

Was a bloody hard job, really bad acsess. Got there in the end.

Fortunately the diagnosis was correct and has been driving lovely since,

Basic conversion coming up.

Cheers all.
