This has really riled me!

Made a planning ap for some work ,my company name is shown as the agent on the application...client has recieved a letter from another company in newmarket offering there services for the above job...now they must of seen my name as the agent and that its a tree company..

I know this happens but i think if the agent is a tree company then its taking the p!s

not happy i would not dream of doing this to some one else there is enough work for every one if you have to steal other peoples you should maybe look at why you dont have any your self and think about a career change.

From what I hear this kind of thing happens quite alot Matty.. been done to me also, although not with a planning app.

The bigger companies are just as bad at it but I guess business is business.

It's a low thing to do but it;s a sign of the times we live in

i once drove ten miles, disscused the job, rang UU up and got info for shutting power of ,dates etc, had a good chat with the guy and thought i had it in the bag, then he rang me and told me thanks for my help and he would consider me for work in the future but his next door neighbour had seen me and told them her grandson was a tree surgeon, he did it on his day off, didnt even turn the power off, crazy bugger. i told him to stick his future work.

Is a low thing to do but imo only because a tree ferm had put the app in.

I see nothing wrong with contacting someone if you know they require tree work doing. Its good business sense imo.

BTW its not something I do, not because I dont agree with it its just I'm too lazy to go and do it. :001_smile:

I think some companies have secretaries with nothing to do, might as well get them to check the planning applications on line and send a letter out to each applicant (even though there is an ajent already) promoting their company. If you get a small response then it justifies the existance of the secretary. I wouldn't do it myself, but I'm sure a secretary would just see it as part of the job.

One thing I would never ever do is employ someone who has contacted me, not me contact them.

That includes door knockers, telephone cold callers and fly posters.

IMO if you can't get the work in through advertising or recommendation then you either need to downsize or do something else.

Sorry but thats how it is with me. To scour planning apps and get work that way is desperation and very sad. Someone who does that imo cannot be trusted

You could be right but threre are ALOT of people out there that door knocking, leaflet drops and contacting works on.

I dont see it any different from sending information packs off to construction companies, housing associations, schools, landscapers etc.

Its all advertising imo.

I'd be more annoyed at the customer tbh.

Any company that has ever contacted me through the above methods have turned out to be untrustworthy or conmen.

It may be the preferred method of advertising for some but they need to bear in mind that ( IMO ) the vast majority of householders hold the same veiw as me, that flyposter and telesales are untrustworthy and ripoff merchants

Nothing wrong with doing that on a speculative basis, but to target known planning apps is low IMO. I think the councils shouldn't publish details of the the applicant.
