Chaps or trousers?

I am looking to purchase some chainsaw trousers or chaps after coming pretty close to doing some serious damage to my leg today. I am not a professional and just got myself a 660 to chop up some pretty big log my local arborists dropped of for me. I don't think I should be looking on Ebay for some and wondered if you guys could advise what to stay clear of and what should I look at for an intermediate pair for occasional use.

Im new to all this, but my take on it is PPE on, or no saw.

 

I bought the husqvarna kit from WOP for £90, and they changed the chaps to trousers for me.  

 

Comes with gloves, helmet, ear defenders and face protection.

You're gonna wanna head on down to your local outdoor equipment place and try on a few pairs. Chainsaw pants are heavy, work better with elasticated braces.

As much as it pains me, on this occasion, I do. But, perhaps helpful advice rather than taking the rise is the way forward. Or even a combination of both. Providing of course this isn't a total wind up?

damski, some helpful advice from a fellow ****************wit.

Oregon, Stihl, Englebert Strauss all so basic versions of trousers around the £100 mark, I'd get some of these which are a reputable brand. Chaps are so easy for the saw to pull round your leg and out of the way they are completely useless in my opinion.

Also, sell the 660 and get something smaller and more manageable, it will be safer. You don't need a 36" bar to cut firewood even if the logs are 36" to start with, an 18" bar cut from both sides or cross cut then rip blocks from the end of the log will cut pieces you can split. A 261 or 550 is much better saw to start with.

And lastly even if you are not doing some training course at least find someone who really knows what they are doing to show you the basics.

I'll trade you a pair of kevlar jeans and a Florabest 55cc for the 660. Will throw in a helmet as well.
