An article in the trade press shows that a South Wales local authority have discovered that they have been overcharged on the usual day rate by subbies and have unwittingly paid these and for other service in the Arb sector. Subbies charged the higher rate of £395 instead of the lower rate.

Who signed off the invoices and I hope that rate is per person! If it was per team then fair play to them for doing it!

Over charged at 395? It can only be per person and that would be a stretch. Sounds quite reasonable actually.

Council took down a small Ash outside the house of wor nipper’s mate yesterday.

2 blokes - all day.

It was an hour’s work for 1 man!

The only way they can have been overcharged by subbies is if the subbies  were working at council pace....

I don't recall the article saying it was team rate or per man? If that is team rate then they'll underpriced the value if it is per man then at they are good capitalists!

LA's have been known to fill positions through an agency. If they offer a tree inspector 40K, how much are they paying the agency on top?

My partner was in a distribution job, through an agency, when the DC asked her to go full time with them, she agreed and found out that she had to be 'brought'! The agency had lost a valuable asset for which they got more money than she did! She is now a team leader, managing a shift crew, half are agency staff and not worth anything.....A one armed, white, British Male has 100% attendance and 105% pick rate while a Muslim from 20 miles away who has to be bused in, isn't 42% pick rate, 3 x 40min toilet breaks, gets lost, cannot read English well and gets the same money... boils my pish!

I was a chef for a few years, it was then that I first saw the mark-up on agency staff.
It is annoying I suppose. How does a one armed man have a 105% pick rate?

The one armed chap can be quoted as saying, "I lost an arm, so what, there's work to be done and targets met!". The other lazy bustards would rather sit about and get flat rate rather than pick rate bonus, attendance bonus and be a part of 'the team.
