A rope cutter!

Worth every penny spent, I think most arb suppliers sell them, if not eBay and Amazon do, search hot knife rope cutter

Like you I messed around with heating Stanley blades up but the dedicated cutter is so easy you will wonder how you managed with out it.

Insulating tape or gaffer tape tightly round rope where it is to be cut. Then cut cleanly with Opinel knife/Leatherman or similar quality. Then heat an old flat file till red hot and heat seal the rope. Cheap and effective.

These electric or gas heated knife things; How hot do they get?? Are they red hot or just melt rope hot??

Do they like melt their way through or are they well sharp as well??
