Watching this thread. A lot must depend upon the flow rate of your particular loader.

Hi, yes I use one on a 528 avant it’s the genuine avant flail works well especially if you keep the flails sharp. Like most attachments hydraulically driven you have to pace your forward speed to the thickness and amount of material to cut but definitely a worthwhile attachment did a site clearance job recently taking out thick heavy bramble and scrub will take out 30-40 mm thick saplings if your slow and steady. Works well in grass even with hammer flails again just pace forward speed to conditions slow and steady in thicker heavier conditions and it’s still possible to cover a fair mount of ground in short order !

I have a Omar flail half the price of avant just as good, Klou make some good flails with the motors matched to machine flow and pressures well worth talking to them

I have a MO flail that I now use on the Avant, good on some stuff, not so good on others, best on low scrub like brambles etc.

Woody stuff, no chance.

 

Used here for flattening out grindings.

Nice. I am thinking if I buy one I would want a model that would deal with woody stuff as well as just be normal long grass & brambles etc. I have never used one personally so I don't want to buy twice, hence the feedback so thanks all so far!

There’s a guy on the MO owners site who retrofitted hammers instead of the tine/flail things it comes with, transforms it apparently but does invalidate the warranty and can cause issues.

 

Mine is a 1.5 meter which is fine on 9.5 but too big for a 8.4 imo.

Had avant flail old style retrofitted hammers pulled all the lugs off the rotor, better converting a hedgeflail head if you want to cut timber go for bidirectional flail cutters will then cut grass etc as well
