Anyone with Tractor/Winch on Dartmoor?

Just need someone with one of those little petrol winches and anchor it to another tree. They'll pull over some good size stuff without a felling cut let alone with one. Saves the hassle of tractors and winches.

Ermmm ........ dunno what to say bud but a tractor mounted 8tonne with wire cable on is going to tear a house down, it’s in a different league to a little petrol winch , and I’ve seen them struggle on some big trees!

I know what you're saying but... I've not seen the tree, do you really need an 8 tonne winch tied into the canopy to do an assisted fell? Must be a giant ash will hell of a back lean to need an 8 tonne winch. Obviously you can use a lower crotch with a bigger winch but the additional time spent putting a point higher in the tree would be cheaper than a tractor winch and operator

You done much assisted felling of big trees Paddy?

Higher you tie in, the less command you maintain as the tree comes over because the winch just can’t keep up. If you put a big winch lower down, it often can keep up for a bit which is important if the tree is compromised. There is no substitute for power to command a tree to its target.

What I have seen and done was with a petrol winch or one on the front of a landy tied higher up. The only assisted felling I've had to do is when It's had a back lean or a slight side lean that needed to be compensated for.

Like I said, I've not seen this tree (has anyone here?). Just offering another option that's an easier, cheaper and faster alternative to getting a tractor and winch in.

Back leaning willow i did a couple of years ago picture not showing how much it was leaning back, neighbouring field was owned by ex-footballer how said we could not fell on to his field and then winch back.

Was winch over with landy with snatch block and anchored back to tractor with loader anchored into ground.
