Bird nesting report?

Hi, I have been asked to provide a bird nesting report prior to starting a large job. Is the something most companys do themselfs or is it better sourcing someone externally? Just not sure as to exactly how much detail or information would be in a report other than saying there is a bird in your tree!

Personally i wouldn't get involved, get an ecologist in that way there is no conflict of interests

If you can charge it out to the customer I’d agree with Ian’s comment above. 
 

If it’s a ‘large job’ as you say, like a site clearance as part of a larger project, it may be that there is a project manager. If so, pass the problem back to them - that’s what they get paid for. 
 

Anyone can do a bird survey, you just need to be able to demonstrate an appropriate / defensible level of diligence and competence. 
 

If you didn’t quote for it either charge it out or charge it as a contract amendment.

Pass it back to the main contractor no conflict of interest . To do properly can take days of observation

Sounds to me like a due diligence thing for the main contractor, if someone subsequently complains about the job being done in nesting season they will point to the report. If anything legal happens will get messy fast, I'd want to outsource it as not sure my insurance would cover those legal costs.

We don’t know what OP defines as a ‘large job.’ 
 

Is it a big tree in a domestic setting or a site clearance with project management oversight. 
 

If it’s a site with PM oversight it might be possible to pass it up the chain. Maybe not so likely if it’s a domestic job. 
 

Whilst we all have our own moral compass viz a viz nesting birds - and, thankfully, most seem to set a pretty high bar, I’m not so sure I’d be carrying my ass in a sling at the prospect of ‘prosecution.’

 

Im sure it’s been said before - has there ever been an arb related prosecution for bird transgressions (maybe Mr Bolam after a few cases of Stella but that’s a whole other story.)  

 

It’s not an offence unless intentional and it’s  not that difficult to be diligent.
