Looking for a diagnosis....

 

When the chain brake is on, and I squeeze the trigger without taking it off, the chain does actually move some....it doesn't feel dangerous but at the same time I would rather it didn't do that! So I'm thinking the brake band is getting old maybe? Could it be anything else?

Yeah mine does that, just a worn band is all, 20 min job to replace if you can be arsed.

Possibly the brake actuation spring is weak, sounds more likely than the band unless it is very worn.

You may have a lot of oil around the brake, degrease with a bit of brake cleaner.

We sell a lot of brake bands so I presume they wear fairly quickly. Make sure you take a couple of pics of the setup as there is a little plastic square washer that can get missed and the brake band doesn't come with the small roll pin, easy to displace this item.

Think I have only ever bought 2 in my whole life . But the I don't use the brake 😁
