It’s what attracted me to this basic thing too. No electrics, no hydraulics and totally mechanical, until I discovered its foibles🤣

2 ways to go here now and you have done the first asking the previous owner to show you. Other option is to see if it will bump start

My old log bench was a twin cylinder, it would start reasonably easy without the decompression a8d if you had the knack! Some cold winter months we would put a fire underneath it to warm her up a tad....

No I'm not. Was just interested in the price they are making these days. I spent 2k about 8 years ago on a 1 tonne thwaites skip loading dumper and haven't looked back.
Far more complicated than the one the op has and will probably never last as long, but a joy to use and paid for itself many times over.

Yes it does. However, after studying the manual Khriss discovered, it looks like the plate it bears on is missing. I did wonder about the reason of that weird loose pivoting section on the bar that goes through the pump. I’ll either have to remake/replace the missing part or Jerry rig something.
Just hold it up with your spare hand until you have to knock compression back on?

Starting to make me wonder if I shut mine down with the priming lever... I haven't started it in about 3 years now as the alternator gave up and I never had much use for it anyway! It would probably look beautiful if it was dragged out and restored but it weighs about 900 tonnes so I never tried

I'll have it 😉 K
