Vented log bags vs rats/ mice

As the tille suggests, I'm sure there was a thread but I can't find it

Where I store my logs, there is signs of rats or mice but wondered if they do eat the bags?

I keep the bags on pallets

Appreciate if anyone has had the issue to say so I know if it's something to worry about!

Cheers

Had mice nest in a bale of net bags before, wrecked about 500 of them. Never had trouble with ton bags.

Plenty of poison and a decent farm cat should help.

Have had mice nesting in bags of logs before but with negligible damage to the bags.

Rats get shot on sight or torn apart by dogs. It's the rules.

They're crafty bastards, rats. A farmer friend recently showed me a video of one covering a trap in straw to set it off before taking the bait.

I'd be more concerned about weils disease with the rats than the actual damage they cause.

PCP air rifle and a good telescopic has done a few in my back garden. Poison and traps if you don't fancy a shooting party. They are partial to peanut butter and bacon for the traps!

Terriers/Jack Russells are formidable ratters!

I have found a 50/50 mix of crunchy peanut butter and chocolate Nutella works well , as does the fully moderated .410 . 3" no 5 shot  👍

I saw the title and thought this was some sort of grudge match, Rat vs Bag and I would put my money on rat.

Friendly pest controller for me. Mine was admiring the lock stacks yesterday and an off the cuff comment "great mouse nests then". I am not bothered by mice, they vanish by the time I burn the logs leaving their nests behind. Never thought about diseases though. Mrs P did meet a couple of mice face to face in the garage one day (literally, they were on a shelf at head height).

Have always fancied doing a bit of ratting with a PCP ... read in a forum about using an elastic band to put a coloured quality street wrapper over a torch as they're not so sensitive to red light and the come out more at night but apparently they learn their mates around them are getting taken so become wary of the red light.

One guy had been using this method and then bought a night scope and he went from 15 rats a night to 60 ... brilliant 😄

Worth googling shooting rats and ratting with Jack Russells .... always a pleasure to watch 😄

Just shot another rat with the .410 out of the landing window . Buggers are coming under the log store to get the spillings  from the bird feeders I can recommend 3" magnum # 5 shot 👍 .
