61k now. The mesh back makes me think that it's not been loaded to the tits with gravel and hammered up hills. The whole thing looks brand new apart from the dings in the bed on the back. I checked and the service interval on these is 2 years/30,000 miles which is stupid and I've always serviced my cars at 6-8k.  It probably had a service at 2 years, 22,000 ish then that one at 4 years/45000miles and the dealer has done a service 200 miles ago so it's within it's spec as I can't imagine they would have missed the first service but I don't like it haha!

I’d still drop it regardless of them saying theyve done it 200 miles ago, (thats just cos i’m anal 🤠) my cars done 5.5k and is only 3.5yrs old, it got done each year regardless, oil still degrades even if it hasnt done any mileage, mostly due to absorbing moisture. Short journey stop start work low milage oil is just as harmful as excessive milage without oil changes imo. Little (cost) and often (oil & filter) as the saying goes in my book.

Good to know it's not just me! 😂 I actually bought some sheets from oil spy. It's basically a piece of filter paper that you put a drop of oil onto. It can show oil detergent failure, water in the oil, fuel in the oil etc etc. I used it on my volvo after doing short trips for 6 months and it showed water in the oil. I looked on the oil cap and it had a thin layer of the milky stuff, when I went back to long trips (more than 5 miles) it was fine! I test my oil every 3 months now, saves stressing. I actually don't like it when dealers service it before you buy it, you never know what you're getting without a good sniff 😂

Not sure in all honesty yolky, i’m not familiar with later ford stuff tbh, just my personal views on blanking off egr’s thats all.
To get round doing it properly you’ll be looking at remapping too, that puts you in to the spending a few hundred quid bracket. If you change the oil regular enough and keep the internals clean then the engine breathes better and you dont get the carbon build ups which is inherently what causes the egr issues in the first place, it clogs the inlet manifolds too. Manufacturers service intervals these days are ludicrous imo, if its all motorway work then you have half a chance cos engines are revving, temps and pressures are up and exhaust gasses/carbons get blown through and stuff is kept clear/clean. Go the opposite way with it and your doing stop start work/short journeys, temps are medioka, pressures are up/down but not to a great degree, moisture/carbons start to build up. That turns your oil properties on the downward spiral, get dirty quicker, dont dissipate the moisture enough etc hence your noticeable sludge on the oil cap, and build up in your breathers, that effects the air/fuelling, mpg’s drop and so on. Not everyone has the same driving techniques/routines, so how manufacturers can say oil is fit for such long intervals when its being used in so many varying conditions is beyond me. And also a lot of people dont understand just how vital oil is regards cooling of your engine, they just assume your coolant does that. Dirtier the oil, the harder it has to work to achieve this.

Just get it compression and leak-down tested. That is the only real indicator of engine wear other than pulling it apart.

Find out the compression for the engine when new and compare it to what the printout sayes from the car workshop.

Car could have had its oil changed monthly but if it was red lined from cold up hills every day it won't have helped much.

I picked it up today and everything seems good. Smooth to drive, put it in 6 and booted it and the dual mass isn't knocking. Drove it 86 miles and it's faultless. The true teller will be the cold start/drive tomorrow as that will pick up any other faults

It doesn't seem like it's had a hard life, interior and exterior is spotless (minus the odd chip etc) and it doesn't appear to have been resprayed either! Fingers crossed I found a goodun

Hows she behaving? Mate of mine broke down last week in his 2014 transit pickup, driving along and just petered out [emoji15][emoji848][emoji848] turns out its the ecu!!! £1600 for a new one! [emoji15]🥴🥴 sent the ecu away for refurb £600, only issue is what caused it!??? Had all wiring checked out and all appears good... he now has a big doubt in his mind when he drives it... will it happen again! Only done 51k and its pristine! Left him wondering whether he should keep it or knock it on! 🥴

Ahh that's terrible! The 2014 and younger had their issues with pistons cracking and all sorts! I guess the ECU recon company should be able to say what happened? Part of the circuit is toasted, they must be able to say why?

She's a beaut! Oil is absolutely pristine after 100 miles. I've never had a diesel where I struggle to see the oil level. I've boroscoped through the oil fill port and the top of the engine is spotless. I contacted days leasing who owned it before and they have all the service history for it as it was serviced by them so they are sending me the service history so I get my full history back!

I'm going to drive it for a few more hundred miles and swap the oil though. I have the invoice for its last service and the oil was £28 which doesn't fill me with hope that it's any good quality stuff.

Also, that diesel knock when hitting idle is only when it's cold so definitely an air fuel thing!
