So, this is the type of Yellow poplar I have in my mind, (if you have any?)

That I would be interested in retaining said colours.

Whilst when it dries it goes dull, and tends to form a variety of chocolate/coffee walnut browns.

How would you keep it looking fresh 🤔

Polyurethane spray like you use to seal kitchen worktops would also be good. That can stabilise colours. Let me ask Tim who works for me. He’s got plenty of knowledge in this sort of stuff with his carpentry skills.

This is a magnolia grandaflora, if you have one of these as well, that be great too 👍

Yes it oxidises some wood, the chemistry of staining wood is bloody involved the cabinet maker I apprenticed to was bloody Amazing had some real scary chemicals though.
