My brother the mechanic suggests " driving it like you stole it" for a week before the test. Even when I was doing long runs with mine, the six speed box means it's doing less than 2,000 revs at motorway speeds.

I would almost guarantee you have a boost leak (split intercooler pipework or less likely a hole in intercooler. Soapy water in a squeeze bottle, spay on the pipes, junctions and intercooler, look for bubbles. If it's not that then at least you have not been taken for a ride.

Yes, we know it's excess fuel/lack of air but why straight after the MOT?

We can blank the EGR for around a fiver, that will be the first try. Ratty suggested the DPF but I'm not sure the early MK7's had one, I'll give it a look.

I'm still of the mind revving the knackers off it for the emissions test started this, well, I'm hoping so for his sake.

Doesn't mean they didn't proper break something. I've known engines throw a rod and go full diesel runaway on that test. Maybe it failed origionally and the garage gave it a good blast?

Engine running LIghtly spray carb cleaner/easy start over the inter cooler hoses if revs pick up You found the split or plug into diagnostics look for low boost pressure on live data

I like that, makes perfect sense now you've said it. I've got access to a mates diagnostics if I need it, a lot of the DB11 readers don't seem to like the MK6/MK7 crossovers for some reason?

thought all MK6 and MK7 tippers were 2.4?

You could well be right Ken, I've just put the reg in the gov website and it comes back as a 2.4. The MOT definitely says it's a 2.2 though.
