What to line a chip box with

Afternoon Ladies,

Just had a chip box made of of aluminium, and I need to line it. I would usually do it with something like marine ply, but thought the weight would be a bit counter productive.

Was thinking of maybe doing it in GRP. I've never used GRP.

Would it be a good idea with saving weight but protecting the aluminium. Or are there other materials I should be looking at.

I was thinking of the bash plate (for the flying chips) to be 1mm steel, or would GRP be good.

Your thoughts are always appreciated.

I have 4 or 5 mm sheets, i fire chip straight in to the back and hurl logs into mine and it doesnt seem to dent it all. I have used like this for a year or so now.

Lining it with thinner board might be an idea, but i tried to save weight as the rest is mild steel!!!!!!!

I have 1/8" aluminum on my head board, dents pretty easily from chip. The sides are the same, and they are in perfect shape. A thin sheet of plywood on the front headboard would be perfect, I am going to replace my aluminum sheet because it looks like crap, and I have some street signs I'll cut for the inside to take the brunt of the damage.
