My New Mill

I used to add 1' square slabs of oak under the 8 legs of my Mill thinking the weight would be better spread and the Mill would be less likely to sink or move. It just resulted in the Mill skittering around more. So I removed them and allow the mill to settle on the legs own pads and this is much more stable. 

 

I understand that your Mill will be stationary but I guess the principle is somewhat the same?

We put a metal frame under ours so if it does move it all stays level. It's a lot stronger now as well.

Hi gdh nice big shed you have your mill in did you fix the metal frame to the floor ,where to in Wales are you I am from Barry originally if I could find a workshop/ yard where we could also live somewhere out of the way back in Wales I would move back I havent had a pint of Brains SA in yrs and yrs

I'm in llandovery, mid Wales, we're lucky to be in a rural area at the moment. It's not bolted to the floor but the stanchions it's on are heavy enough that it doesn't move and it's got slots for pallet forks if we need to move it anyway.

 

The sheds one we've just rebuilt for storing firewood but we're doing a bit more milling recently so it's set up in the corner. I was tempted by the 130max but it was a lot cheaper to strengthen this one for now for the small amount we do.

Yeah I sold my hm130 on a trailer as my broken ankle is not up for tromping round woodland and cow fields doing mobile milling and that paid for a brand new hm130 max static I just cant wait to build it up .

Hi guys so quick question to anyone who has built up a Woodlands Mill how the F##k do you attach the cables for the cartridge lift mech

Looked at the youtube vids mark.We had to fook about with ours if i remember and when winding up and down it was lop sided to start with.

Hi sorted the cables all I had to do was wind in the lift handle I did feel a bit thick when Chris looked at the pics I sent him and says just wind the handle in so all done just need to chem fix the threaded rod to hold the bearers down and then get the saw moved on the track ,Happy Days

So I now have the bearers chem fixed to the floor in my lean too and hopefully tomorrow I will get the track squared up and screwed to the bearers and the saw head on the track ,cant wait .

We go mountain biking around that area, camp up the road from Rhandirwyn. What a beautiful part of the country that is. Been going there for 35+ years.
