Thats the difference between old and new saws, new saws rev the nuts off to get the chain speed, these old beasts plug along and get the job without burning the fuel so bad..
Now go to the 090 and thats 137cc and a tad more keen on drinking the fuel.

Nope.
Ever used an 880?
Read up on modern saws.
I ran 051’s,056S,075’s, etc.
Complete joke compared to a modern saw.
That’s why I sold all my dinosaurs.
I get offered 070’s and 090’s regularly,
total waste of time.
Ok fir hobby milling though.
But not for professionals.

Reviews I've seen show the 500i air filter blocks up quickly, would be a pain milling surely?

Perfectly normal.
It means the air filter is working.
I clean my 880 filter after every cut, as the sawdust and chip are much finer when ripping compared to cross cutting.
