Weekend Work Rate

As most of the above 1.5x for Saturday and 2x for an Sunday, although I don't think I have ever worked on a Sunday!

It really depends on who you work for and why you're working the weekend IMO. If I was freelancing and wanted to work the weekend for a bit of extra money I wouldnt expect the boss to pay me more than a normal day rate but if I was pricing a job that had to be done on the weekend I would charge more and pay myself and the lads the extra. I also wouldnt ask anyone to work the weekend without offering them more pay.

Time and a half or double time isnt an excessive amount to ask for IMO.

The bit about, "how many arbs are in your area" always makes me smile, It's a bit like buying a new car and then noticing there are loads of them about. How many drainage vans do you see about?, very few I would think?, yet in the village I live in there are three of us to my knowledge.

Yorkshire would be a different story eggs surly,That is where you are from yes

There is so much in this thread highlighting what’s wrong in the pay area of the UK Arb industry.

No customer ever honestly expects to pay standard rate for asking someone to work outside normal office hours without incentive, so don’t charge standard rate!

believe it or not , most people do understand that people have better things to be doing at weekends than working.

the only exceptions to the rule is when a company is snowed under with work and to clear the backlog, works weekends.
However, the end customer is still charged “standard” rate as it’s the company’s wish to work the weekend, and the guys who are out working should still be given an incentive to work their weekend - job n knock, half days work full days pay, time n half, double bubble etc.

Or when YOU ask for weekend work.

time is precious, don’t under value it for someone who won’t appreciate it!
