A cubic metre of loose beech logs weighs 300kg roughly . A builders bag should weigh between 150 - 230kg depending if its the .55cu or the 90x90x90 bag which is .75cu. I definately have too much time on my hands in the summer :thumbup1:

I've weighed several 1 cubic metre bag of wet Oak, cut to 18" logs. Came in between 400-450 kg a bag, sorry SWB, back to work and cancel the diving hols in the Red Sea.:001_tongue:

Next year it's all birch for me, so I should be able to retire by October

I took 2cubic metres freshly cut loose logs on to a weigh bridge and it came out at 860kg.

By my calculation 1000kg of green timber should have a volume of 2.3 cubic metres when turned in to split loose logs.

In reality I reckon it works out more like 2cubes logs from a ton of fresh cut timber

18" logs have less air gaps than a bag of 6-8" ones, one bag of big beech rings once split is 2 bags. we fill all our bags by hand, i put between 220 and 240 logs per bag. But if you were a bricky you could fit 3 times the amount in if you wanted to.
