Even at 1.5 cube a tone conservative estimate, I'll get 39 cube which gives about £3000 which is £2000 profit as I do all the splitting so no labour costs. Any more is a bonus.

Good stuff mate, Jump on the logs when things are slow and do it bit by bit, Sweet :thumbup1::thumbup1:

The amount of down time ive had because of the snow i reckon i could of split all that by now :laugh1:

Cost of living must be cheap over with you if you are working for free....

do you not think you should factor in your time so you can see at the end of the day if its worth your while or not?

When you work for yourself and there's no work on what do you do? Sit at home and wait for the phone to ring? No, you get down the yard and graft. A bonus to this career is the small profit you will make by using your time well.

only thing with oak is it takes along time to season, ash or sycamore or birch season a lot quicker. Im not knocking oak or anything, im just thinking i would like my money back quicker.

If you look a little close at the pics you will see a lot of Ash and not much oak. Sorry, should have said and a lot of it was felled 3 months ago. So should be great for next season.

Good job there John, hope it works out ok,

If I had any more space or cash I would have bought that lot myself but I reckon two loads will have to do for the moment

I'm starting to build a covered store for mine, just need to split into billets first and then stack to season it out side until September, then get it in the store

Happy logging

My philosophy to ... I`m doing some property speculation which just involves picking the phone up a few times a week and waiting for estate agents to sell it, so meanwhile I am accumulating a store of logs to start a sideline business from home rather than sit and twiddle my thumbs .. and I enjoy the hard work .. I`m even building a barn specifically for this.
