Selling in 2.5m lengths

Roadside for firewood we're paying £40 for soft and 50-55 for hard.

 

For milling you probably want to cut it longer than 2.5m

Is that just processor sized stuff or for a mix? 

 

Is processor classed from 14" and down?

Probably be worth giving David Norman,..Longtown  a call. He has lorries down your way most days and looking for backloads. He will buy soft and hard, and oversize.

I can't speak for other mills but I pay £70 per ton for most woods (hard or soft) and £100 or more for Oak and 2.5m is perfect for me.  I am very small though and only need a lorry load or three every now and then.

 

And as has been said most sawmills will want longer logs - 3.7m for softwood and as long as possible for hardwood possibly 5m.

Thanks for this. So 2.5 is purely for firewood then. 

 

I remember a good while ago it was 2.5 and 3.2's we had to cut etc

That's processor stuff. Usually 4-15 inch or 4-19 in our case.

Well I buy 2.5m logs for milling.  But I think most sawmills would want longer.

Got this mix of larch, bit of pine and some hardwood on site to shift soon. Bit of processor hardwood from another site etc. 

 

Not masses but if I stocked it up then sold it figured it was better money this way?

I am sure it will be more sellable as lorry load batches.for sure.  But that stack is too mixed for most sawmills.

Yes I would have thought so.

 

Ideally need to find someone into their firewood and start to sell it to them? Or get a lorry load and then advertise etc ...

 

Just thought it would be more brass this way as said, peanuts for biomass and not too interested in mass production of logs either.
