I've only used it a couple times, for cutting big stumps low and for ringing up a couple big stems. Partly using it for the sake of it.

Got a 395 to use instead next time.

Its the chain sharpening on a 4 foot bar that bollox you, rather cut from both faces than one single through cut. One nail....  ? K

Thats yr job!  Nice boards by the way. But all my big fells have been 066s. K

Yeah, I don’t really use 880’s for felling.
A 661 with 36” bar (or less) will tackle 99% of British trees.

Would say not even that. 20 to 24 inch n bore cut n poking the hinge gets stuff down. I have pics to prove  k

It’s not the felling,
try crosscutting 50” trunks with a 20” bar.
And it’ll be an expensive trunk too,
No cutting wedges out!

How do you measure/set your depth gauges?

With my stihl Depth Gauge. Same as you I guess?

For consistency I check each tooth with my 'calibrated ' ie, paid for calibrated mitutoyo Vernier gauges. Same as the rakers.

I served my time in mechanical engineering, (second apprenticeship) first was a as a car mechanic. Ive spent a large portion of my career being being one of a very limited number who can handle explosives off-shore.

So yes, I feel I have the jist of depth control.
