Red oak mantle peice

Milled some Red Oak with the alaskan and then got it ripped down into boards/ beams. I am going to make it into a mantle just curious to what I should varnish/ seal it with it..

I would use some sort of oil like osmo or just teak oil

I swear by Danish Oil. I've just installed a mandle in my daughters bedroom thats what I'll be using.

Let it sit there for at least a year before you make good around it.

 

Then watch as a crack opens up all around it.

Im yet to put a coat on. The missus has been plastering around it and painting the walls. Will make a start tomorrow.
