I have noticed recently, that some of the smaller electric/hydraulic log splitters now come with a safety cage....is due to accidents with the earlier versions??

Health and Safety gone mad. Most likely some office goons bought himself a woodburner and decided to split his own logs and chopped his fingers off.

I was expecting a link to a YouTube video. There are no end of videos on there covering home made splitters, some with questionable personal safety levels.

I wouldn't want to use one with a cage but can understand why they are there. I know someone who lost his front teeth when a log fired out. Probably worse for small domestic fires as I find the shorter logs much more likely to shoot off in all directions on a splitter. My usual logs are 15" or more and hardly ever do it.
