Agreed Steve - Looking at that tree an its situ. I would have used high lifts and winch - much better than setting up a bottle jack.....

I Wasnt criticizing metal wedges, cant beat them IMO.

ive used the bottle jack technique many times where theres been no winching point....anyway we digress

Anyone who wants to go and fell trees of a diameter over 200mm (8") or wants to operate a chainsaw from a rope and harness will be required to take an nptc assessment. How you prepare for the assessments is up to you! It makes sense to use a lantra registed instructor as they now how to best prepare a candidate for assessment.

As far as I understand the matter it shouldn't make a difference now as Lantra are an umbrella organisation that licence/grant NPTC the permission to do the instruction and testing of trainees. They are all part of the same thing.

The Lantra chainsaw course is basically the NPTC CS30/31 course without the assessment.
