big chestnuts and perfect day

first bigish job of the year, kicks off with a bacon and egg bagguette to die for and cuppa tea from a roadside van

get to job in grounds of ely cathedral by half 8ish, crisp winters morning, 2 nice big chestnuts i surveyed a while back, old pollards, big regrowth stems, clear underneath, spikety spike, crash bash, repeat . . a helmet cam would have been ace for felling the tops out

farmer/pub owner comes along, wants all the big wood :thumbup: comes back with teleporter and big grain trailer, pays us a bit of £££ another bloke turns up, pays us more £££ for smaller bits

nock the first ones brush off and down the tree at 10 am break time precisley, go get a huge breakfast bap and cuppa tea from cafe, finish docky, up the next one whilst lads are chipping the first still, spikety spike crash bash repeat done in half hour, cuppa tea, back up the first to get lump wood down, the cathedrals 6th form school dinner ladys take pity on us outside, ask if we want some hot food...:lol: silly woman OF COURSE!!! 3 course posh school meal and more tea

back to work and local paper turns up takes loads of pics, story of high profile trees in next weeks paper.

load the first ones cord straight into farmers trailer, fell the stem, more pics taken, pose a bit :blushing:

load hiab up, go to farmers tip wood, new tip site always good

 

home check emails, won a tenner on lotto :thumbup:

3rd to last pic, stem still standing, the saw propped up against stem is a 660 with 30" bar for refrence
