Apoxy resin

Hi I have used Easy Composites as well and I have used EliChem both are very helpful on the phone but unfortunately resin is expensive and it don’t go very far ,if you are going to f##k about with it then get a couple of sheets of Polypropylene as the resin does not stick to it and some flash tape I think easy composites sell the tape but eBay for the polypropylene ,easy composites have a quite good vid on their site as do EliChem ,oh one more thing a heat gun or old hair dryer as when you mix the resin it gets loads of bubbles in it and a gentle heat gets rid of the bubbles.

Just thinking out loud and sorry for the slight derail, you are making say a resin river table or filling the hollow round with resin for a table, you get it all perfectly flat and polished in your workshop and it looks great.  What happens when it has been in someone’s house for 6 months with the central heating on?

Does the wood shrink move a bit giving a ridge / step at the resin wood join?

Hi It would depend on how dry the table top is I made a glow in the dark coffee table for Nepia on hear and I think it’s only moved a tiny bit

Not moved as such but yes, the wood (yew) has shrunk a very small amount in ?3 years or so.  The table is in the same room as the logburner but unless you catch the light right you can't see that the resin is proud - the shrinkage has been that small.

If you want polyester resin I get if from ebay for about £40 for 5 kilos, Easy composites are good you need to work out what resin you need for the table, size, depth, open time polyester or acrylic etc. I always use polyester water clear casting resin and works well.

Hi yep I always use water clear polyester as well !one of the things that I did struggle with when first playing about was keeping it contained as it will just sleep through most sealers ,expanding foam etc

One of the best sealants I have found beleive it or not is the thin brown parcel tape, seems to stick to most surfaces, a hot glue gun is a bonus to. Old lino or vinyl flooring is a good base with scrap wood sides glued and screwed around the boards then sealed. Some woods can be a problem with resin if they are oily as the resin doent stick to them well and can pull away, if the table is going to be opaque consider threaded rods to join the two boards together hidden in the resin.
