Trainee Arb. Consultant position available (Newmarket, Suffolk)

Job Description

About the Company

Started in 2016, Ligna Consultancy is a small, modern arboricultural consultancy firm located in Newmarket, Suffolk. Our work is mostly based around East Anglia, although, we do occasionally work further afield on big contracts.

We pride ourselves in forming long-lasting working relationships with our clients. These are based upon open communication, the ability to convey our expertise in a concise manner, and the desire to continually improve the service that we provide to them. We are committed to providing our clients with in-depth and tailored advice on a range of tree-related issues.

About the Job

We’re looking for a full-time or part-time trainee Arboricultural Consultant to join our team. Although a basic knowledge of arboriculture is required, we are willing to accept candidates without any specific consultancy experience, as on the job training will be provided; we believe that passion, enthusiasm, and a desire to learn is more important than someone with years of experience. So we believe that this position would best suit an arborist looking to transition into consultancy or a student that has just completed their level 3 or level 4 in arboriculture.

If selected, you’ll become the third member of our close-knit team. Owing to the small size of Ligna you will be expected to get involved in many aspects of the business, including site surveys, writing reports, and face-to-face client interaction.

This is a great opportunity to gain the experience, skills and knowledge needed to get into the consultancy side of arboriculture.

As an applicant, you will ideally:

  • Have a qualification to QF Level 3 or 4 in arboriculture.
  • Be accurate and diligent with regards to your work.
  • Be well presented, trustworthy and punctual.
  • As a minimum, have a basic understanding of tree hazard/condition surveys and development (BS5837:2012).
  • Be computer literate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have a full UK driving licence and use of a car.
  • Have a desire to continually improve your knowledge and work.
  • Have a love of the outdoors (you’ll be out there quite a lot!)
  • Have a cracking sense of humour, enjoy cat memes, audiobooks, the Oxford comma, and long walks along the beach(woodland)….

If successful, your duties will include the following tasks:

  • Undertake all types of tree surveys, sometimes staying away from home.
  • Check and analyse tree survey data and reports.
  • Produce tree condition reports, work specifications, and development reports.
  • Produce well-structured and referenced planning statements.
  • Attend meetings and supervisions as a representative of Ligna Consultancy.
  • Help attract and build strong relationships with new (and existing) clients.
  • Assist in the growth and development of Ligna Consultancy.

You will receive:

  • Anticipated salary range £16,000-£19,000 (DOE) for a full-time position (reviewed annually and increasing with experience).
  • 28 days paid annual leave per year (pro rata).
  • Pension contributions.
  • Fantastic on the job training (with the opportunity to get financial support in obtaining your foundation degree).
  • Opportunities for career progression.
  • Paid mileage, travel & subsistence (whilst away from home).
  • A company car will be provided following your successful completion of the probationary period
  • Tea and coffee facilities provided…bring your own cake. Biscuits provided, but generally eaten before you get there.

If you think you may be a good fit for the role, and would like to join a young, forward thinking and dynamic company, please email us your CV with a covering letter of experience to [email protected] .

Please note that if accepted, there will be a three-month probationary period. Additionally, in your initial application email, please use the subject line ‘Hello, is it me you’re looking for’.

If you wish to discuss the opportunity and role further, please call Ben on 079722 21916.

If I have my sums right £8.65 / hour  most brash draggers get more and they don’t supply a vehicle!

You want to make your mind up, any subbie wanting £200+/day wanted telling to feck off recently, now you're on about poor wages. Where are you at?,  or does that depend on if you like the cut of someone's jib?

Sounds like a nice little job there for someone, but for the pay you are offering there will be few if any takers, you need to be starting at 20/25k then looking at 30k as progress

As a sub contractor like you I know how hard it is to make money I believe the post you refer to was my assumption that if you pay £100/ day then you charge £200 for the day, £100 a day is £12.50/hr I made no comment if this is a livable wage

Hi 5 Shires and dumper,

Thank you both for your comments. I am aware of the rates of experienced consultants. However, this roles is aimed at someone with little to no consultancy experience, who is looking to learn on the job, and have help with obtaining any relevant professional qualifications. Therefore, I believe the rates to be competitive.

Pay will of course increase with experience - I have now made this clearer in the advert.
