Hi all,

Just created a quick poll (apologies if this has been discussed before, I'm sure it has) to find out how many of you use either anchor with SRT.

Reasons why you use your choice of anchor would be greatly appreciated.

Or does it ultimately boil down to what the job at hand is?

Many thanks

Saw this the other day and it was a timely reminder just how vulnerable you are on a Basel anchor-

There is too many factors that can cause a base anchor to fail- falling branches, sharp items on the anchor point, increased risk of the anchor point in the canopy failing, inexperienced ground staff damaging the base anchor.......

Canopy anchor if i can help it, base tie with a simple running bowline and backup if its just s simple ascent and descent job or moving throughout different trees with one anchor. Or if i cant be bothered to isolate my anchor of course!

I think common sense comes in to it a great deal too. The above example, with four climbers up a tree, working off a base tie is plain stupid. Let alone in a tree with that much going on. It shouldn't come as a surprise he nearly splattered.

I base tie for ascent then generally switch to a canopy tie for working.

What method do you guys use to switch to a canopy tie when in the trees? I can see it being a massive faff when trying to set it up. I'd like to get used to the last method in the Climbing Arborist - Canopy Ties video on Youtube, using a DIY cambium saver of sorts, to be able to ascend the anchor as well.
