You are right, I rarely buy and sell standing timber anymore, but I cut it all the time, both on piece rate and day rate.

If I remember correctly you said you trained up 5 lads and still have 4 working for you? So including yourself and the 4 lads all working for you and still under the £85k tax threshold? Something does not sound right.

I have trained dozens of lads over the years, the numbers of guys I work with are dependant on the job, they also have their own work and I cut for them also.

Well I seem to remember you specifically stated you have retained four out of the five guys you trained up. I could dig the quote out for you if you like? You made a big song and dance about not dragging the lads up behind you on the ladder but with you. All 5 of you for under £85k? I’m struggling to figure in how much tax and national insurance you could actually be paying personally?

People in glass houses and all that.....

Andy me old mucker .  Most of the time I am on your side , and I respect your views , politically and to do with oil extraction , This is not about how many blokes were trained up or retained . Believe me bud , if you have spent your formative years learning how to perfect  your trade ( hand cutting )  you would want to be on piece rate . If you are good at something all the while your body lets you , you want to maximize your potential .  Its the way it is bud . ?

Fair enough. :) I respect your point of view. Seems a crazy way to make money but if the guys enjoy it then fair enough.
