How many hours a day do you fire your stove?

A few hours in the evening on damp days this time of year and all day with just enough embers to relight in the morning in the winter.

Apart from a bit of excess from our rayburn that heats the water it's our only source of heat and the house is very old so gets damp without it.

From October to March, pretty much 24 hours a day. As and when outside of those months.

There have been stretches of over a month and a half in winter (when we were in Scotland) where I didn't take a match to the stove as it was constantly alight.

I'm an amateur, I only have 5kW that I use to reduce the gas bills so when it is cold it is lit in the evening when I get home and at the weekends while I'm awake to put logs on it.  The wife uses it much less when I'm not there, just for a nice warm lounge TBH whil I'm keener to try to get as much heat out of the wood as I can, although sometimes I have to compromise as the lounge gets stupid hot.

I'm like rob the sparky and my wife similarly does not use the stove if I'm not in. However ground floor is open plan and 2 stoves heat the whole house well enough down to just below freezing.... Combined with a tightness/determination to be frugal means I run the stoves as much as possible, which is about 50 hours per week (evenings and then more at weekends). One stove runs like that October to early may, the second stove as well mid November to mid April

In glasgow and in the winter it will be on most of the day, obviously building up to that as winter starts and ends. Iver he summer probaby a coupeofhours a month to move the air around the house and remove damp

I also live in Scotland and a Scottish summer is very very different to the rest of the UK - short and sweet :)

Twice a week in the summer, and 24/7 in the winter, We go through 250-300 IBCs of seasoned wood a year, its a pretty big stove though.

Jesus! Do you run a crematorium or something? That's a stove of ungodly proportions!
