western red cedar is another suggestion.

I would go with WR Cedar also. Scots Pine good ecologically and will grow on side of a jerry can ? A handful of oaks in there just to give diversity.

both plots are surrounded by hard wood planting, so no lack of biodiversity.

Yup. Get yr local friendly farmer to sub soil site for you. Bit of lime on clay soils will make it crumble a bit also. K
