Not really, all straightforward and the information needed is widely available on the tinternet.

But, people do tend to see, or interpret what they see, so as to allow them to do what they want to do.

cheers,

Marcus

P.S.

I too wonder at the legality of most caravan outfits, since generally towed by a big heavy car or 4 by 4, and unlikely to be sub 750Kg caravans

Try calling Dvla ;) but make sure you ask the right question as the first line help team only read the website. So if you ask am I OK with this weight they will say yes.

Perhaps they have BE?

Or the plate weights add up to less than 3500kg?

Quote from gov website. Not it says MAM not weight.

Category B - if you passed your test on or after 1 January 1997

You can drive vehicles up to 3,500kg MAM with up to 8 passenger seats (with a trailer up to 750kg).

You can also tow heavier trailers if the total MAM of the vehicle and trailer is not more than 3,500kg.

FAQ’s

Q I do not hold category B+E on my licence, what

trailers am I permitted to tow?

A This depends entirely on your towing vehicle, read

the examples below for further guidance.

Q I drive a Land Rover Discovery**, with a MAM of

2720kg. What trailer can I tow?

A You may only tow a trailer with a MAM of 780kg.

This restricts you to trailers in our current unbraked

range such as the P5, P6e, P7e or BV64e.

Q The model of Land Rover Freelander** I drive has a

MAM of 2080kg. What trailers can I tow?

A You may tow trailers with a MAM of 1420kg.

This includes any of our unbraked trailers, eight of

our Eurolight range trailers, three from our general

duty range, any of our single axle box vans, all of our

P6 and P8 Livestock models and our single axle car

transporters.

Ok so dvla says yes!
Mam of 3.5 ton is not to be exceeded.
Fine to tow 1.5 ton.

I think you're getting confused between mam and gtw. The mam is the maximum laden weight of the trailer and towing vehicle which can be found on the weight plate and the log book. For arguments sake...My isuzu rodeo weighs around 1900kg but has a mam of 2900kg which means that on a B licence I could only tow a trailer plated for a maximum gross weight of 600kg. I feel your discovery will be similar. The combined mam of your disco and 2.6t trailer is somewhere in the region of 5.5t which puts you 2t over your mam towing on a B licence. hope this makes sense

OMG listen MAM not WEIGHT

You asked the question wrong.

The MAM must be 3500kg Not the weight must be 3500kg.

Does your Disco have a MAM of 2000kg?

What is the top number on its weight plate or the number in section F1 on the V5c?
