Think on your sins emoji15.png??
You’d think hardwood would stand the test of time for furniture and the like?!
Cheers

I've gone right off hardwoods in recent years, especially since returning to forestry. Slow growing, awkward to fell, doubly awkward to extract and riddled with quality issues. I also feel that the figure in larch, cedar, douglas and many of the other softwoods is at least as pretty as your run of the mill hardwood.

Cheers J,
I guess it’s the general growth habit of hardwoods that make it difficult to extract?
Hopefully it’s not a fashion for exotic imported hardwoods that has caused the decline in the use of beech.
Although it sounds from a business point of view the softwoods are paying their way [emoji106]

I'm glad you're able to shift it. My customers always wanted elm and oak and second to that, ash.

I can ask the estate thats trying to flog that 10m long Oak Log you spotted on Gumtree if you like? Im sure I could get you some Beech cheap?

Or if you're after something a bit more seasoned I have a few slabs thats been air drying for a couple of years. 2" and 3".

Left 2 6m Beech monoliths standing as wildlife habitats in Aberdeen as could not be arsed dragging them home, they were about 5ft across. One had rot in it the other sound.

currently have two staircases and a kitchen in beech this week without trying. we will be handling 400 to 600 tons of beech this year as we'll use it in our workshop, the timbers good be a shame to waste

Cheers Andy that would be appreciated, I'd want to start from scratch and mill the whole log. Top slab will be a decent lump for sure. Gonna copy a one that's in a local butchers.
