Compression should be extraordinarily high on one of these. Have a good look over it for broken plastics etc as some buts are out of production now. Things like Avs filters and normal consumables are still fine to get though. I've got a few cylinders (not in production) etc if you ever need any

Finally got the MS880 today. After I bought it the guy calls up the Sunday after saying he can’t start it. I ended up taking the gamble agreed a reduced price of £280 delivered worth it even if i have to put a new piston and barrel in. 3rd pull out off the packing and it goes like f**k. I don’t think he knew how to start it properly plus the decamp was stuck down. Phoned stihl it’s a 2016 ms880 serial numbers come back a clean saw. Look into the bore. Doesn’t look like it’s been abused. I got a good running 2016 MS880 with 48” bar and chain for £280. I’ve never been this lucky ?

That appears to be very acceptable price!

Very acceptable price. I just need to get 72” mill and bar set up. 2nd hand or new. And a 48”mill 52”bar. I’m going to try the solid nose out on a bit of ash 600mm-830mm 3”slab. I have 1 good slab to get before I hit the back. Then some 28” elm.

Hi look out for chain tension issues with the solid nosed bar I had loads of probs until Rob D recommended a sprocket nosed bar then way to go no more chain tension issues , but good luck and have fun , milling is ace when you first turn over that slab and see what the grain is like F###ing Cool as , do post some pics

Cheers Mark

To avoid tensioning problems on a duromatic bar.
Set the saw up, run on medium and high revs for 1 minute.
Re-tension and away you go.
Remember to un-tension after milling.

Because the chain cools and contracts after milling.
I've seen a bent crankshaft from over tension then no de tension.
If your lucky it'll just stretch the chain, leading to chain snapping.
Check your links for lateral play.
