I can pick up a 076av for £250 but don’t know much about it. A couple 084’s on eBay but I think if I got 1 I’d be wishing I waited for ms880 or 090.
084s are pretty much the same as 880s. Belter saws. A Few parts not available now, but for the most part all the bits you are likely to need are. If you can get a good used 084 I'd be as happy with that than with a hammered 880.

076s are great, full parts availability, more torque than a 660 but probably not an enormous step up in cut speed ( if chain sharp)

I’ll watch the 084 on eBay. I’m seriously thinking about the new 880 with a 48” for £1210. It’s a fair price. I’ll wait 5-6 weeks and if nothing pops up that takes my fancy I will just get the 880. The 660 bar won’t fit bigger saws?
Ring a few dealers before you buy new. Gustharts quoted me around 950 for an 880 with no bar. Also the stihl 48" bars dont have nose sprockets ( or at least some dont, duromatic are the solid nose type) which I reckon isnt what you want for milling.

You 660 bar will not fit the bigger stihl range but will go on 460s etc. Some of the bars that chainsawbars sells are large stihl mount and just come with an adapter plate to fit a 660 or similar saw.

Ive been using a Duromatic 48" Bar for Milling for over 2 years now and Milled maybe 20 logs with it. Not had an issue, I keep the nose oiled though. I use a Lo-Pro Bar with my 36" Mill.
