Bar machining plug missing.

Hi All,

 

The machining plug has fallen out the end of my 4ft MS880 bar. It's only been used a dozen times. What's the deal? I can imagine crap getting caught up whilst cutting, but it doesn't stay in if I push it back in.. Does it need fixing back in somehow or it's faulty? It's a big expensive bar to not be right after only a few uses. Or doesn't it matter?

Dont know what you mean? Got a pic? Do you mean the rivets that hold the nose sprocket on?

Well oddly enough, i have a few bars (not as long as yours by the sound of it, longest i have is a 20”) and some bars have holes in and some don’t, all mine are rollomatic E bars so just standard laminated bars. I’ve just googled it and apparently it seems the hole is used in manufacturing but then pressed back in afterwards. ?‍♂️ no idea or anything conclusive for ya really.
Someone with greater knowledge and better understanding on bars may be along shortly.

Tooling for manufacturing only Stubby, or for sharpening your chain whilst out in the woods etc?

Its so when its buggered you can hang it on a nail in the shed, because "its might come in"?

Manufacturing I'm thinking . Press tool location or similar but if you can find another use for it fill yer boots . ?
